So long, summer: Bronx kids head back to school
It's that time of the year again when kids across The Bronx are trading in their swimsuits for their best back-to-school outfits. To make the transition back to the classroom a little easier, the city's Department of Education (DOE) offers plenty of helpful tips on its website. Parents can apply for free and reduced-price lunches on the website through the schools' meal application system. Breakfast is free for all students and lunch is $1.50. People who receive government benefits may be eligible for free meals. The DOE also breaks down bus service information on its website. Students in kindergarten through second grade that live half a mile away can get bus service. Child in third through fifth grade can get yellow bus service or a MetroCard.More information: NYC DOE
