$22,000 reward offered in off-duty officer shooting
A $22,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects involved in shooting an off-duty officer in The Bronx.
According to authorities, officer Ivan Marcano was shot in the chest on Harrison Avenue after trying to break up an attempted robbery. Sources say three men were stealing money from a 65-year-old man.
The men took off in a white Mustang, but struck a livery cab from behind at a light. Driver Carlos Montero says that until he heard gunshots, he thought he had been involved in nothing more than a minor accident.
Montero says he saw a wounded Marcano open fire on the men in the other car, killing one of them with a shot to the head. The two others fled the scene on foot.
Marcano, a 27-year-old transit police officer from The Bronx, is listed in stable condition at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
