NYCHA launches new citywide recycling program

The New York City Housing Authority is launching a new program to help residents become more environmentally friendly.
NYCHA and the Department of Sanitation have teamed up to help the 400,000 tenants who live in NYCHA complexes take part in recycling.
The Bronx River Houses is just one of the five NYHCA housing complexes citywide that are getting a new recycling plan.
"By putting recyclables where they belong, we're leading by example and making a huge contribution to the mayor's sustainability plan to eliminate all waste we send to landfills by 2030," said NYCHA General Manager Michael Kelly.
As part of the program, recycling bins will be installed throughout the grounds on different NYCHA properties and tenants will be givens bags so that they can bring their recyclable goods down to the bins.
"We need to make sure we are investing in a robust program for the residents of NYCHA to make sure that they can participate the way the rest of the city participates in the recycling program," said Sanitation commissioner Kathryn Garcia.
