Bocce players rejoice at Marine Park improvements
New improvements were unveiled Thursday at Marine Park, home to some of the city's most dedicated bocce players.
Park officials held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the upgrades. There are four new full-court basketball courts with new pavement, new fitness equipment, and the handball and tennis courts were reconstructed. There are new fences, water fountains and benches, too.
For bocce lovers, the new bocce courts are equipped with a shade canopy, so players can keep at it even in the sizzling sun.
The upgrades are part of a more than $5 million investment from City Council Member Alan Maisel.
City Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver notes that Marine Park is the largest in the borough, and crowds are expected to turn out for lots of free fun this summer.
