Barber shop owner gives check to top high schooler
A Bedford-Stuyvesant barber shop owner gave a surprise donation to a star student before they head off to college.
Shayne Simpson is a senior at Boys and Girls High School on Fulton Street. On Friday, a school alumnus gave him a $1,500 check to help out with college tuition and reward him on his road to success.
Simpson lived in and out of shelter with his father after his mother died. Now living with family, he runs track and excels academically.
The donation left Simpson emotional and at a loss for words.
Donor Kenneth Tunney, owner of Just Us Barber Shop, says he wanted to pay it forward and see Simpson happy.
Simpson plans on attending Stony Brook University after graduating in June.
