Bodega worker shot in East New York

EAST NEW YORK -

A 20-year-old bodega worker was shot after police say he tried to stop a shoplifter.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon inside a bodega on Shepherd Avenue in East New York.

Police say the employee attempted to stop a man from shoplifting when he took out a gun and shot him once in the hip.

The worker was transported to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.

The suspect remains at large, and police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
