The 150th annual Memorial Day parade took place in Bay Ridge Monday, serving as the longest continuously-run Memorial Day parade in the country, according to organizers.
"The true meaning of Memorial Day is to remember those that have passed as well as their families who have lost their loved ones," said Marine Mark Johnson. "So today is a day of remembrance, not a day of celebration."
After the parade, a memorial service was held in John Paul Jones Park in honor of the nation's fallen soldiers.
The service featured a 21-gun salute, and wreaths were laid for the country's heroes.
