Brooklyn Army Terminal's food hub welcomes first 3 tenants
Friday was move-in day for the first three tenants at the Brooklyn Army Terminal's new food hub.
The facility now features delicacies from City Saucery, Salty Road and Momo Dressing.
Michael Marino, co-owner of Brooklyn's City Saucery says moving into the new food hub at the Brooklyn Army Terminal was perfect timing for his small business.
"It's a little difficult to scale up and try to share a kitchen with 80 other food producers in Brooklyn," says Marino.
Marino and his partner are just one of three teams that are brand new tenants to the building that was launched by the New York City Economic Development Corporation after a $15 million renovation.
The business owners gave some Brooklyn residents and local council members a tour of the new space.
In addition to keeping it local with ingredients, the purpose of the food hub is to create more economic opportunity locally.
"The building is really great for startups. We are really excited about these businesses moving in and we have additional space to rent that we want to fill up," says Julia Stein, of the NYC EDC.
The corporation is hoping to bring in at least seven more businesses to complete the hub.
