Bail denied for teen accused of dragging NYPD officer with car
Bail was denied for the Brooklyn teen accused of dragging a police officer two blocks with a car in Brooklyn.
Justin Murrell, 15, was charged with attempted murder and assault for the June 3 incident.
Prosecutors say Officer Dalsh Veve is in a coma with catastrophic head and brain injuries at Kings County Hospital. He is a nine-year veteran of the force.
Police say Veve and other plainclothes officers responded to a call of shots fired at a party on Tilden Avenue near East 53th Street just before midnight Saturday. However, the shots were just the sound of fireworks.
Police say Veve noticed an illegally parked car at the scene, and when he approached it the driver took off, dragging the 35-year-old officer for more than two blocks before he fell free.
Veve fired two gunshots and struck the teen in the face before he crashed the car and fled.
Police also charged two women who were passengers in the car with hindering their investigation into the dragging of an NYPD officer down several blocks in East Flatbush over the weekend.
Eboni Clinton, 19, and Jeronda Oliver, 18, were inside of the car driven by the 15-year-old boy who allegedly dragged the officer when the group was questioned about being illegally parked.
Surveillance video shows Veve bouncing off the street behind the car as it slams into another vehicle on East 53rd Street.
Murrell is expected to be charged as an adult. His attorney says Murrell never intended to hurt the officer.
