Residents take advantage of hot weather
Many residents took advantage of temperatures in the 90s Monday and headed outside, some to play and others to work.
A Pepsi delivery driver at Marine Park said he had to take extra breaks to combat the oppressive heat. Other workers said drinking Gatorade helped them because it contains electrolytes.
"If you don't drink water, you will pass out in this weather," said Jerry Maultsdy, another worker. "It's brutal."
Some preschool children were out in the playground at Canarsie Park. Their teacher said that it's healthy for the kids to get some fresh air while getting some exercise. But as the weather got hotter, she says it became more important for the kids take water breaks.
Other kids had no school Monday. Some of them turned out to Lenape Playground to play in the public sprinklers.
