It was an all-hands-on-deck effort Tuesday in Morrisania to spruce up a community center and garden.
"I love being able to come out, donate my time to the community," said DIY Network star Jason Cameron. "And see everybody come together like this and participate, learn as they go to help their fellow neighbor."
Volunteers joined Cameron, HGTV, Rebuilding Together NYC and Altice USA -- the parent company of News 12 -- at Banana Kelly's Prospect Avenue building to get its community center and garden ready for the summer.
"We're building picnic tables, refurbishing picnic tables," said Jeff Wilke, of HGTV and DIY Network. "Also working on restoring and bringing back a shared community space."
The community space is an important part of the apartment complex. It's where events such as biweekly ESL and GED classes will be held starting in the fall.
The project is a gift that's intended to keep giving. What's planted there will be given back to the community.
