Safe Horizon's Lily House is a safe place for community members to escape from danger.

The center has 26 apartments, a communal space and a day care.

The shelter is just one of many Safe Horizon shelters, offered free of charge to domestic violence survivors.

Associate Vice President of Shelters Olga Rodriguez says Safe Horizon is the largest victim services organization in the country, helping anyone in need, including members of the LGBT community.

She says these members are more hesitant to call for help, but studies show domestic violence within same-sex relationships are higher than straight couples.

According to Safe Horizon, a quarter of gay men experience some sort of domestic violence, nearly double the amount of straight men.  For women, a little less than half of lesbians are victims, compared to a quarter of straight women.

Rodriguez says Safe Horizon is always there for those who need help.
