Charges expected to be upgraded after infant’s death

The Brooklyn DA's office is expected to upgrade charges for a Coney Island father accused of beating his own daughter to death.
As News 12 reported, 19-year-old Shaquan Taylor is accused of fatally beating his 16-month-old daughter Nylah Lewis on Father’s Day.
Taylor claims he was in the shower when she fell off the bed.
Nylah's mother, Tammy Lewis, rushed over to the apartment and found her baby daughter was unresponsive and struggling to breath, with bruising and swelling to her face.
A child abuse specialist at Maimonides Medical Center says Nylah had a skull fracture and was in critical condition. The baby died after nearly a week in the hospital.
The child abuse specialist evaluated the baby and believes the injuries were intentional, not accidental.
Nylah's mother has a restraining order against Taylor, so he was in violation of the order while the infant was in his care.
Taylor was charged with assault, criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child. However, officials say following Nylah's death the charges will likely be upgraded.
