Students at P.S. 214 were joined by elected officials Tuesday to unveil a new playground designed by the kids themselves.
The unveiling marked the endpoint of a project that spanned five years and cost more than $500,000.
The project was brought to the school by the Trust for Public Land, which works with students to address their schoolyard dreams. Those dreams for kids at P.S. 214 included a turf field, basketball hoops, a track and some color to replace the once-barren blacktop.
School staff and students say they can't wait to put the new schoolyard to use.
The playground will be open to the community on weekends and after school hours.
