A popular African-Brazilian art form is bringing music and dance to Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The new fitness studio Capoeira Fit opened its doors on Nostrand Avenue Saturday.
Capoeira combines dance, martial arts, music and acrobatics. It was created over 400 years ago by Africans in Brazil.
It was started by slaves as a way to defend themselves and maintain their culture while disguising it as a dance from the slave masters.
The founder says classes will be free all week at the studio.
"It's about challenging yourself, it's not about trying to one-up the other person, it's all about just trying to grow as a human," she says.
