Man accused of threatening to kill praying nun inside BK church
A half-clothed man is accused of walking into a Brooklyn church and threatening to kill a nun while she was praying, police say.
The incident happened Wednesday at Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph on Pacific Street.
Surveillance video shows a shirtless man walking into the church and over to Sister Maria Amador, who was praying for her mother while she was in surgery.
Amador says the man yelled at her, saying she doesn't help the poor. She looked for help from another woman in the church when the man allegedly told her, "She can't help you. I'm going to kill you."
That's when Amador screamed and ran away. The church organ player, who was also inside, yelled at the man to get him to leave.
Amador says while she is scared by the incident, it won't stop her from keeping the church doors open and continuing her prayers. She says she even forgives the man and would like to help him.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Unit is handling the investigation. The suspect has not yet been apprehended. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to call police.
