Blue-green algae has invaded Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn, and it can be toxic if consumed by humans and animals, officials are warning.
Parks officials have placed signs around the lake warning of the dangers of Cyanobacteria.
The algae typically blooms during the summer, and if consumed by humans and animals can be toxic, officials say.
Samples from the lake are being monitored weekly by the state's Department of Environmental Conservation.
