An annual art event in the Bronx showcased art created by Afro-Latina women.
Mercedes Frias, an author who grew up in the Bronx, says she created the event, 'Scarlet,' so that women of color could express themselves.
"I wanted an event that women of color could pretty much express themselves with art and dancing and music. I feel like there is so much hidden talent in New York and I wanted to bring that out."
The event is a celebration of female expression, Frias says, which she started four years ago.
Frias says she has connected with so many talented Afro-Latino women through social media.
The women joined to express themselves and display their talents which spanned everything from spoken word to paintings, photography, jujitsu demonstrations and standup acts.
