Red Hook Greenway trail closed during Formula E races
Posted: Updated:The Greenway bicycle path along the Red Hook waterfront will close for about three weeks to accommodate Formula E racing in the neighborhood, officials say.
The electric car racing event begins this weekend at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
Some cyclists say they're being pushed out by organizers who are using the surrounding area from July 3 to 21 to set up a "fan village." Visitors will be able to buy food and souvenirs there.
"We want to minimize the disruption in our host cities," a Formula E spokesperson said in a statement. "The stretch is unfortunate, but we feel that having worked closely with local authorities, we've limited the impact on the neighborhood."
The Department of Transportation is recommending that riders use the bike lane on Van Brunt Street as an alternate route.
