Friends, family mark 10 years since fatal shooting of detective

Friends and family of slain NYPD Detective Russel Timoshenko gathered in Crown Heights Friday to pay their respects.
Timoshenko was fatally shot in the face on July 9, 2007 when he and another officer stopped a vehicle with stolen plates.
Timoshenko's mother says it is thanks to the love and support of the community that she carries on without her son.
NYPD officers at the 71st Precinct say that while a decade has passed, the loss of a fallen officer is always felt and the desire to honor his sacrifice never fades.
Many noted that even though he's gone, Timoshenko is still helping to make the streets safer.
"This past January was the culmination of a 10-year legislative effort when the governor signed the Police Officer Timoshenko law, which mandates that a vehicle's owner comply with the window tinting regulations," said Police Commissioner James O'Neill.
