DOT: Prospect Park closed to car traffic until Sept.

Prospect Park will not allow car traffic until September, according to the Department of Transportation.
East Drive will be closed to cars through Sept. 11, city officials say.
No cars will be allowed to drive on East Drive from Park Circle to Grand Army Plaza, officials announced.
The DOT says it made the decision to close the roadway to vehicles after a number of requests from the community and local officials to expand 'car-free' hours.
Mayor Bill de Blasio says there are a lot more people using the park during the summer, and officials hope closing the road to cars will create a safer environment.
However, motorists say cutting through the park saves them time and money, and it's something they are upset with the city about.
