Aphasia support group gives patients a voicePosted: Updated:
An Aphasia support group at Brooklyn College is giving patients their voice back.
For 12 weeks each semester, participants re-learn the basics of communication.
Aphasia is a brain condition that prevents its victims from verbalizing and comprehending language.
The symptoms often occur after severe brain trauma or stroke, according to doctors.
Graduate students volunteer to help participants in the class so that they may begin to redevelop speech and comprehension skills.
