BROOKLYN -

Police say riders panicked on an MTA bus Monday after a gun went off while the bus was stopped.

They say the incident happened around 2 p.m. while the bus was stopped at the intersection of Fulton Street and Howard Avenue.

Officials say the gun belonged to a passenger in an electric wheelchair. They say as he was getting off the bus, he dropped the gun and it went off.

Police say the gunfire sent passengers scattering, and that the man picked up the gun and left the scene.

They say they are still searching for the man.

No one was injured.
