Red Hook is getting a new traffic light -- a safety precaution that some residents say has been years in the making.

They say they've been asking for traffic relief after numerous accidents at the intersection of Van Brunt and Pioneer streets.

Neighbors say there's a dangerous blind spot there.

"It's like every couple of months, there's somebody that actually gets in an accident over here," says Trevor Budd, of the nearby Brooklyn Ice House.

The city Department of Transportation says residents have been requesting the light for a long time. A few weeks ago, the DOT completed a study, which is leading to the new addition.

The DOT says it will install the light by October.
