Best of the Bronx: Junior Olympic race walker

A 10-year-old Bronx girl is making her mark in the competitive sport of race walking.
Race walking is a long-distance race during which one's foot must be in contact with the ground at all times.
Tiarra Jackson hits the track at Pelham Bay Park at least three times a week. Her parents say she was attracted to race walking because of her natural endurance and athleticism.
Ranking No. 1 in the state, the Junior Olympian holds two different record titles for indoor and outdoor race walking in her age and the 11- and 12-year-old girls division. This past weekend, she finished sixth at the AAU Junior Olympics, which is the largest multisport event for youths in the nation.
Tiarra's goal is to one day represent the United States at the Olympics.
