A Bed-Stuy doughnut shop's decadently topped dunkers are a big hit in the borough.
Ilya Melamed, owner of Doughnutry on Malcolm X Boulevard, offers up 17 types of doughnuts, some of them very large.
"They're bigger. Much bigger and they're homemade," customer Connie Turner says.
Made completely from scratch, the larger than life pastries are often topped and filled with decadent sweets, including maple glaze, Dulce de Leche, Nutella, strawberry, orange, coconut, cinnamon, and powdered sugars and sprinkles.
With all the work he puts in, Melamed says customers can expect to feel the "Brooklyn Love" in each bite of his doughnuts.
He says making a great doughnut takes time.
"It's a combination of the doughnut being very soft, very fluffy, and being able to hold its shape," he says.
