Brownsville’s very first black-owned beauty supply shop recently opened on Saint Mark’s Avenue.
Jeffrey Beauty Supply is located at 1709 Saint Marks Ave. and is owned by entrepreneur duo Sade Ogunkeyede and Jeffrey.
News 12 Brooklyn has learned that despite the beauty supply industry grossing $10 billion in annual sales, the beauty supply industry is majorly lacking in African-American ownership.
“There is little to no representation, and we wanted to start a tidal wave of that,” says Sade.
Sade and Jeffrey say they hope their story will change the game as the first black-owned supply story for weaves, braids, wigs, hair color and more in Brownsville.
They tell News 12 that visitors can take comfort in knowing that most of the sales associates are using the products they sell.
“It makes sense to hear it from someone who has the same experiences as you do,” says Sade.
The duo tells News 12 that customers have flocked from all over, including different states, to show support.
