J'ouvert preview celebration held at Brooklyn Public Library

BROOKLYN -

Community members gathered at the Brooklyn Public Library Saturday to celebrate a preview of J'ouvert.

Organizers say the library partnered with local organizations to shine a positive light on J'ouvert with a pre-dawn procession before the West Indian Day parade.

The event was intended to teach the art and history of resistance behind J'ouvert through music, dance and costume.

The annual J'ouvert festival will be held in two weeks.
