Greenpoint mourns loss of man killed in Monitor St. stabbing

Community members in Greenpoint are mourning the loss of a fellow neighbor who was fatally stabbed Friday night.
A memorial full of candles, flowers and posters is growing along Monitor Street where 42-year-old George Carroll was killed after returning home from a date night with his wife, Christina Carroll.
According to Carroll, the couple was walking home around 9 p.m. from a nearby bar when a group of people sitting on a stoop yelled at them.
"They got into this whole 'what are you looking at?' business and then everything happened so fast..." said Carroll, regarding the incident.
She said moments later, one of the people chased her husband down the street, fatally stabbing him.
Carroll continues to mourn the loss of her husband, who she describes as the type of person who would always help someone in need.
Carroll has since set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the funeral expenses.
Police say they are still searching for the suspect and an investigation of the incident is ongoing.
