A vigil in East Flatbush is bringing awareness to cyberbullying right before children go back to school.
Residents from across Brooklyn came to East 40th Park Friday for the third annual event benefitting the nonprofit You're You (Stop to Cyberbullying), which has existed for a decade.
The organization seeks to end online bullying that led to more than three dozen deaths in New York City alone in 2017.
The organization says having the event now is vital to getting the word out to students and their families.
The vigil featured performances and speeches from victims of bullying. The performers and speakers told the audience that it is important to share their experiences in order to raise awareness about the problem.
The You're You organization also goes to schools throughout the year to educate children about cyberbullying.
