Registered Democrats will head to the polls next week to cast their votes in the 48th Council District Democratic primary.
The 48th District covers Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach, Sheepshead Bay and other areas.
Incumbent Chaim Deutsch is running for reelection. He is touting the district's lowering crime rates and says that the district's quality of life has improved due to new street sweepers and renovated greenspaces.
Marat Filler, a small business owner, is challenging Deutsch in the race. He says the district is still plagued by quality of life crimes and vows to work with the police department to add more auxiliary officers patrolling the streets.
Filler says he also wants to make sure small business are eligible for relief funds after emergencies like Superstorm Sandy.
