A Coney Island fundraiser is aiming to remember a local hero who lost his life during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The widow and four daughters of FDNY Capt. Vincent Giammona stood proudly outside the Cyclone on the Coney Island boardwalk, honoring their late husband and father.

Answer the Call, the New York police and fire widow's and children's benefit fund, presented a commemorative plaque to the family during a fundraiser in Giammona's honor.

The spirit of Giammona is captured in a photo from 2001, less than a week before 9/11, where he convinced a park worker to ride Coney Island's iconic Cyclone despite it being closed.

The photo was the reason why the family held the ceremony in front of the coaster, and the family rode the Cyclone in his honor.

In this year alone, Answer the Call has distributed more than $4 million to families affected by 9/11.
