Trial set for NYPD officer accused in road-rage killing

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN -

A trial date has been set in Brooklyn for an NYPD officer accused in a road-rage killing while he was off duty.

Wayne Isaacs is charged with the July 4, 2016 shooting death of Delrawn Small in East New York.

Surveillance video shows the night of the incident at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Bradford Street, where investigators say Small got out of his car to confront the off-duty officer, who is now suspended from the NYPD. Isaacs initially claimed that Small assaulted him, but prosecutors say the video shows otherwise.

Isaacs is charged with second-degree murder. His trial will be the first police-related death prosecuted by the state attorney general.

"We welcome the court's ruling that the statements will be admitted and look forward to proving our case in court next month," the attorney general's office said in a statement.

The trial is set to start Oct. 18. Small's family says they will be present at each appearance.
