Report: Bed-Stuy undergoing economic resurgence
Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood is currently undergoing an economic resurgence with record numbers of jobs and businesses, according to a report released Friday by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
Between 1980 and 2015, the neighborhood's population grew by 34 percent, which was faster than the citywide rate of growth.
Jobs in the community have seen a 45 percent increase since the end of the Great Recession to a record 17,000 jobs in 2016. Total businesses increased by 73 percent, which was the fourth-fastest rate of growth among New York City neighborhoods.
The comptroller's report also states that violent crime in Bed-Stuy fell by 44 percent between 2000 and 2016.
