Parking spaces converted into 'street seats' in BK
A popular trend sweeping across the city from Manhattan to Brooklyn converts parking spaces into public seating spaces.
Street Seats, a citywide program where local partners apply to transform underused streets into vibrant, social public spaces, has made its way to Brooklyn.
There are about 17 Street Seats spread out from Manhattan to Brooklyn.
They are located in the roadbed along the curb line to create an attractive setting for eating, reading, working, meeting a friend or taking a rest.
One of the popular seating areas located on Pitkin Avenue in Brownsville gets a lot of attention from residents who are eager  to use the space.
However, some residents fear the public space is gentrifying the area and will cause rent and property value to skyrocket, forcing them out.
