A restaurant in Hunts Point is using fresh, Mexican-imported ingredients to make tamales.
City Tamale opened two years ago and the business has grown into a go-to spot for many truck and bus drivers in the area.
Owner Israel Velez came up with the concept after a trip to Mexico looking for the best tamales.
"Each tamale is different from different regions and different flavors, so…I started getting ideas," says Velez.
The restaurant also has expanded its menu to a variety of Mexican favorites such as quesadillas, tacos and tortas.
"We have a lot tradition in the tamales of our families and pride on this," says Alvaro Magana, of City Tamale. "We try to do always the best."
