A notorious Spuyten Duyvil intersection is finally receiving safety improvements that residents have requested for years.
At one point, an SUV slammed into a pizzeria at Kappock Street and Netherland Avenue -- prompting local outrage and the Department of Transportation to add a new crosswalk, sidewalk extensions and wider pedestrian islands.
There is a school and a senior center nearby, and the new installments should help senior citizens and children cross the street safely, the DOT says.
Some residents want the DOT to add more safety features, like staggered traffic lights and a left-turn signal.
The DOT says it's continuing to review the project.
