St. Barnabas unveils state-of-the-art 3-D imaging center

St. Barnabas Hospital is taking the lead in the fight against breast cancer with a new comprehensive 3-D breast imaging center.
The hospital unveiled its new imaging center Friday. The 3-D technology has a higher detection rate than conventional mammograms.
"What's unique about the program at St. Barnabas is we are not only able to do the screening three-dimensionally, but we can also do our biopsy," says Dr. Bert Petersen. "We are able to accurately target these lesions from a three-dimensional standpoint.
Doctors can also focus on more difficult to see areas with pinpoint accuracy with the new machine.
St. Barnabas is now working to bring the 3-D breast imaging technology to its mobile mammography unit in order to reach more women who may be at risk.
