Vehicles will be permanently banned from Prospect Park beginning next year, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday.
"It's really about getting back to a place, to the original idea of this park, restoring it to its original purpose," the mayor said. "It needs to be a place for everyone and it needs to be a place that's safe."
The move comes after cars were temporarily banned from the park over the summer.
The ban will begin Jan. 2, 2018.
