Mom returns to hospital with daughter born during Superstorm Sandy

Almost five years ago this week, a Brooklyn mom walked into Coney Island Hospital in labor -- then Superstorm Sandy struck.
The storm badly damaged the hospital, knocking out power. That's around when Sharae Harris gave birth to her daughter, Miraj.
Dr. Daniel Lasser says the hospital had just finished transferring out patients when Harris arrived.
"I saw waves going up Ocean Parkway -- things that I'd never seen in my life," Lasser says. "That's when I realized we're totally surrounded by water. We knew that we had to use our own ingenuity to figure out how to help this mom."
They rushed her inside and made preparations -- then the lights turned off.
"I couldn't even see them -- all I saw were the headlights," Harris recalls.
Lasser and others worked with headlamps as their main source of light to deliver Miraj.
The mother and daughter returned to the hospital for the first time Monday to reunite with the staff.
