Gunfire rang out at a Halloween party in Edison overnight.
Edison police say the shooting happened inside a banquet hall at the E-Hotel on Woodbridge Avenue. Police say a 20-year-old East Orange man was shot in the left leg and a 21-year-old Newark man was shot in the arm and abdomen. Authorities say the victims’ injuries were serious but not considered life-threatening.
A video shows people in costumes, most believed to be college students, running out of the banquet hall at the Rutgers-organized party around 12:30 a.m. The video also shows one person being put in an ambulance.
Police says that officers found the two gunshot victims inside a car that was stuck in traffic as it tried to leave the hotel parking lot.
Witnesses say that they heard several gunshots during the party.
"All of a sudden we hear three shots go off. I reacted after the second shot. I threw my girlfriend on the ground, got on top of her and just laid down,” said Blaize Medved. “Luckily we were right by an exit, we got right up and walked out."
Officials say that the hotel was booked for a private Halloween party. No arrests have been made.
Anyone who may have any information about the shooting is asked to call Edison police at 732-248-7400.
