Residents of one Crown Heights apartment building have gone on strike, refusing to pay any rent until the building’s management meets their demands.
People in the building say they have gone the past three winters without heat and say they have suffered rodent infestation and leaky roofs.
Tenants of 80 New York Ave. have not paid rent for the past three months because they say the management is trying to push them out of rent-stabilized units.
“They've illegally removed five of the eight units from rent stabilization and they're charging the tenants way more than they legally should be able to,” says Brian Sullivan, who is representing the tenants in court.
One resident says the landlord did agree to put heating units in the basement, but the Department of Buildings put the work on hold due to unlicensed workers.
