Junior’s celebrates 67th anniversary

An iconic Brooklyn restaurant celebrated its 67th anniversary Tuesday.
Junior’s has been serving up its famed cheesecake since Alan Rosen’s grandfather opened the restaurant back on Election Day in 1950.
“He literally went around New York City, which was at the time known as having the greatest cheesecake, and he would taste and test different recipes and come back here to the bakery and take the consistency of this one and cross it with that one, and he hit upon this magic formula,” says Rosen.
He came up with a winning mix of cream cheese, eggs, sugar, vanilla and heavy cream – plus the classic sponge cake base.  What truly makes it iconic is its consistency.
The restaurant also serves other tasty treats including a milkshake sprinkled with graham crackers and the newly added pumpkin pie cheesecake.
Junior’s, which has expanded to five locations, marked the special occasion by serving diners a slice of cake for 67 cents.
