Woman convicted of killing pregnant friend gets 40 years to life

The Bronx woman convicted of killing her pregnant friend and cutting out her baby was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years to life in prison.
Ashleigh Wade killed her childhood friend, Angelikque Sutton, in her Wakefield apartment in 2015 and attempted to steal her baby.
Prosecutors say Wade slashed Sutton's throat and then cut the baby out of her stomach.
They say she then tried to pass the baby off as her own. The baby, named Jenasis, will be 2 years old next week.
Wade's defense attorney claimed that his client was not mentally well. Wade called herself a monster on the stand and expressed remorse for what she had done.
Wade was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder. A judge sentenced her to 25 years to life on both counts, which will run concurrently.
She was also convicted of one count of kidnapping in the second degree. The judge sentenced her to 15 years plus five years post-release supervision for that charge if she is released from prison.
