2 men suspected of killing Bed-Stuy moms held without bail

Two men accused of fatally shooting a pair of moms in Bedford-Stuyvesant last summer were arraigned on second-degree murder charges early Friday morning.
Nazir Saunders, 20, and Anthony Alexander, 18, are accused of killing Chynna Battle, 21, and Shaqwanda Staley, 29, on July 12. Both of the victims had young children, police say.
As News 12 has reported, police say the two men fired at least six shots into a crowd of people sitting down for a barbecue, fatally striking the two mothers -- who were not believed to be the intended targets.
Police arrested Saunders and Alexander in South Carolina, and they arrived at the 81st Precinct building Thursday evening.
Saunders and Alexander were held without bail and ordered to return to court on Nov. 22. They face up to 50 years to life in prison, if convicted.
