Local leaders and community members came together on Friday to help families in need during the holidays.

For decades, the borough president's office organizes the Thanksgiving meal event to give food to nonprofits and faith-based groups who distribute the donations to community members in need.

In just a few hours, 870 turkeys were collected for people who need them this season

The organization also gave away nearly 3,000 pounds of vegetables.
