Seven people, including a child and several firefighters, were taken to hospitals Tuesday morning following a fire in Newark, officials said.
The fire was reported just before midnight Tuesday at a three-story residential building on South 18th Street.
Officials said 70 firefighters responded to the blaze and removed five people from the building. Three of the five, including a child, were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and University Hospital to be monitored for smoke inhalation. The other two people refused medical attention.
Four firefighters also suffered minor injuries and were taken to University Hospital. All four have since been released, authorities said.
The fire was brought under control around 1:30 a.m. The cause is under investigation.
