BUSHWICK -

One person was killed in a shooting on Broadway in Bushwick Friday afternoon after a fight turned deadly.

Police identified the victim as 20-year-old Shaheem Bernard, who was shot in the leg before 1 p.m. Friday inside a check cashing shop on Broadway.

They say the shop is just steps from the entrance to Woodhull Hospital on a busy section of a busy street in broad daylight. Bernard was rushed to Kings County Hospital, but didn't survive.

Efrain Rivera, 20, was arrested for the crime. Police recovered a 9 mm gun from the scene.

People in the area say they are upset by the violence.

"It was kind of crazy living so close to this but...it's Bushwick," said Julian Woodhouse. "I think there needs to be some changes here.

Rivera is being charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
