Some members of the Muslim community are accusing the former imam of a Kensington mosque of deceitfully taking control and shutting it down.
A notice on the door of the mosque reads that the building will be closed until further notice.
Congregants tell News 12 Brooklyn that their local mosque, Masjid Nur al-Islam, shut down last week without explanation. Community members have since been gathering outside of the mosque to pray, while they continue to search for answers.
They say the former imam stepped down in August after an alleged embezzlement scandal, but not before he transferred ownership of the building to himself.
Community members tell News 12 that they are looking to take the matter to court.
News 12 has been unsuccessful at reaching the former imam for contact.
