Protesters are calling on the FDNY to bar a former EMT forced to resign from the department after posting a flurry of anti-Semetic
tweets.
The National Action Network protested outside of FDNY headquarters Monday demanding the department reconsider its decision to promote the man on becoming a firefighter.
The former city fire commissioner's son, Joe Cassano, 28, will be joining the FDNY Academy on Dec. 11.
Cassano was allowed to reapply to the FDNY Academy and became an EMT again last year after he sought counseling and toured the Museum of Tolerance, according to the Daily News.
In 2013, during his first year as an EMT he was forced to resign from the department after posting a number of hateful comments on his Twitter account, which has since been suspended.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the FDNY says, "EMT Cassano has passed all requirements for promotion to firefighter and is scheduled to enter the upcoming probationary firefighter class."
Protesters say the department should not allow Cassano in.
